This show has become the highlight in what is a whirlwind of ten days of events every August, when car enthusiasts from around the world gather in Monterey to celebrate the ultimate in automotive design and engineering.

This unique version of the "Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès" was first launched in Geneva in complimentary tones of ebony and étoupe and ebony and brick. In order to give the customer a wider range of options Hermès and Bugatti have developped four new colours schemes in line with the heritage and the values of the two houses. Therefore, the "Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès" is now also available in these exclusive combinations : "indigo blue and vermilion", "indigo blue and lime green", " black and garance red" and "Prussian blue and blue jean".

The «Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès" associates Bugatti`s technical performance with the expertise of Hermès and its craftsmen. In partnership with Hermès, designer Gabriele Pezzini has married the distinctive Hermès style to the legendary Bugatti Veyron 16.4, magnifying the car`s personality.

This remarkable car features an array of exceptional characteristics: the innovative alliance of a technologically advanced engine, delivering 1001 horsepower, with an understated yet uncompromising silhouette reflecting the high performance capacities of state-of-the-art engineering and design, and above all, the pleasure these inspire in every Bugatti owner.

The fascination exerted by this sports coupé, capable of reaching 407 km/h, is due in large part to its unique alliance of the very finest motor-racing technology with comfortable handling for everyday driving.

The 16-cylinder "W" configuration engine is fed by four turbochargers and features 64 valves, generating 1001 horsepower at 6000 rpm. The engine draws on its 8-litre displacement to deliver a maximum torque of 1250 Newton-metres between 2200 and 5500 rpm. With full-time all-wheel drive, the car`s phenomenal power produces breath-takingly dynamic handling, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 2.5 seconds. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 benefits from aeronautical and aerospace technologies, making it the fastest production car ever made. The car also features a braking system designed to deliver unprecedented powers of deceleration, establishing a new industry benchmark. The carbon-fibre discs provide brake pressure of up to 180 bars, combined with eight-piston monobloc callipers and titanium pistons fitted with fine steel heads and ceramic heat protectors. Apply the brakes at speeds above 200 km/h, and the rear wing acts as an airbrake, positioning itself at an angle of 113 degrees in less than 0.4 seconds, augmenting the Bugatti Veyron`s already impressive stopping power. The airbrake increases negative lift at the rear of the car to 300 kg, enhancing the braking torque on the rear axle. At 400 km/h, emergency braking will bring the sports car to a complete halt in less than 10 seconds.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SYHjXEUzoOI/AAAAAAAAAPo/rrzXfzRYJmU/s320/bugatti-veyron-fbg-par-hermes-new-colors-2008-9.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296764622201921762" />
This, the world`s most fascinating car, has pushed back the limits of physical engineering to offer a completely new sensation for driver and passenger alike. But it has also adopted a radically different stance to that of other sports cars: its features and finish are sure to impress the most demanding clientele. Hermès and designer Gabriele Pezzini have lavished attention on the interior and exterior of this exceptional car, to create the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4: the "Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès".

A HARMONIOUS DESIGN, INSIDE AND OUT

The official name of the highly exclusive Bugatti Veyron "Fbg par Hermès" refers to the historic Hermès headquarters on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, in the heart of Paris`s eight arrondissement: the "Fbg" appellation evokes the house`s "faubourg" address.

With the Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès, the exacting standards of Émile Hermès and Ettore Bugatti come together for the first time, in an exceptional collaboration: the culmination of their extreme attention to aesthetic and technological quality and performance.

Gabriele Pezzini has reinterpreted Bugatti`s traditional two-toned carriage work, fostering a fluid, harmonious transition between the car`s exterior and interior design. The colour of the hood extends to the interior of the cockpit, and re-emerges behind, at the level of the rear wing.

As a tribute to the celebrated 1924 Bugatti Type 35, undoubtedly the most famous of all time, thanks to its many successes on the racetrack, the new Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès features eight-spoked wheels in polished aluminium, central butterfly wheel locks branded with the letter H, and air vents around the rims reproducing the characteristics appearance of Hermès saddle-stitching. The horseshoe radiator grille, and the lateral ventilation grilles flanking it, are made from lightweight alloys with a design of interlocking H`s evoking the Hermès "signature".
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SYHjeGLKKvI/AAAAAAAAAPw/hhdDPbo7Bjw/s320/bugatti-veyron-fbg-par-hermes-new-colors-2008-19.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296764742957411058" />
A REFINED FORMAL VOCABULARY

The inner surfaces of the Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès have been designed and sheathed in bull calfskin by the Hermès workshops in Paris. The care and attention to detail observe an extremely refined, minimalist formal vocabulary, reflecting the tradition of the very first Bugattis and the fundamental design principles of the house of Hermès. The door handles echo the fluid forms of handles on Hermès travel bags and luggage.
And the dashboard, traditionally finished in brushed aluminium, is here clad entirely in bull calfskin. Passengers aboard the Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermès will find a dashboard glove compartment designed to hold a selection of small travel accessories and a zipped Hermès wallet. Both seats are covered in two-toned bull calfskin, and the panel separating the cockpit from the central rear engine – traditionally made of carbon fibre- is covered in the same fine leather. The leather-lined trunk holds a specially-fitted "Toile H" and leather case, hand-made by the craftmen from the Hermès workshops.

This exceptional car is priced at 1.55 million Euros (not including taxes) and is available at the end of 2008.stafexhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14330728936961286036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4681516279658441799.post-76279707125153346082009-01-29T09:06:00.001-08:002009-01-29T09:08:05.839-08:00Cobra Technology tunes Nissan GT-R<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SYHiMqt5XLI/AAAAAAAAAPI/59e-y_50ZFo/s320/cobra-technology-nissan-gt-r-2009-1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296763344017513650" />
Cobra Technology tunes Nissan GT-R review:
Rarely has a new car attracted this much attention a full year before its official market launch. The Nissan GT-R reaches for the stars on the wings of a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine with 485 hp / 356.9 kW and permanent four-wheel drive. The development of an extensive tuning program at COBRA N+, the division of Cobra Technology & Lifestyle (Alleestrasse 15-19, D-33818 Leopoldshöhe, Germany, phone +49 / (0) 52 02 / 99 92 60, fax +49 / (0) 52 02 / 99 92 50, Internet www.cobra-sor.com) that exclusively deals with the customization and tuning of Nissan automobiles, is running at full steam.

Power can only be substituted with more power. The COBRA N+ engineers are already hard at work developing engine tuning for the turbocharged engine. The first tuning stage is projected to deliver 550 hp / 404.8 kW, with an increase in torque to 680 Nm. To achieve this goal the engine electronics are reprogrammed, boost pressure is increased by 0.15 bar and the air intake is modified with sport air filters. Also under development is a free-flow COBRA N+ stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with metal catalysts.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SYHiR-sF2qI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/FPyX8MPHlZI/s320/cobra-technology-nissan-gt-r-2009-4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296763435277998754" />
Thus powered the Nissan GT-R from COBRA N+ will sprint to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of some 320 km/h. Plans exist for a COBRA N+ RACE PERFORMANCE engine version with 620 hp / 456.3 kW and a peak torque of approximately 800 Nm.

COBRA N+ also adds further sporty character to suspension, wheels and brakes of the new top-of-the-line model from the Japanese carmaker. Three-piece, extremely lightweight 21-inch COBRA N+ light-alloy wheels are slated to fill out the space beneath the wheel arches perfectly. They`ll also create the necessary space for COBRA N+ eight-piston brake calipers and 405-mm brake discs on the front axle. A COBRA N+ coil-over suspension gives the sports car even better handling. It features a multitude of selectable settings for ride height and damper rates.

The COBRA N+ tuning concept for the GT-R also includes a sporty designer suit. The front of the two-door car receives added character with a new COBRA N+ front apron with large air dams. The aerodynamic-enhancement part also reduces lift on the front axle and improves cooling-air supply of radiators and front brakes. COBRA N+ rocker panels ensure optimal air flow between front and rear wheel arches. The rear is upgraded with a new COBRA N+ rear apron with integrated diffuser, and a larger COBRA N+ rear airfoil. The COBRA N+ Speed and Stripes decal kit accentuates the striking lines of the sportscar.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SYHiYcUG7II/AAAAAAAAAPY/UxD-VX8iENE/s320/cobra-technology-nissan-gt-r-2009-6.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296763546309684354" />
For customizing the interior COBRA N+ offers two different options. Nissan GT-R owners can choose from a luxurious COBRA N+ interior with specially sewn upholstery for seats and doors, made from a high-quality combination of leather and Alcantara, and a COBRA N+ racing cockpit with ultra-light carbon-fiber racing seats, six-point seatbelts and roll cage.

The COBRA N+ tuning program for the Nissan GT-R will be available for the car`s European market launch in the spring of 2009.stafexhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14330728936961286036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4681516279658441799.post-30033542847189179192009-01-29T09:00:00.000-08:002009-01-29T09:04:04.638-08:00Marangoni Alfa Romeo Mito M430<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SYHhOZbl3LI/AAAAAAAAAOw/izotMkIjU6Y/s320/marangoni-alfa-romeo-mito-m430-2009-4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296762274225446066" />
Marangoni Alfa Romeo Mito M430 review:
The M430 is the striking new 2009 demo car for Marangoni Car Tyre, the division of the Marangoni Group that manufactures and markets car tyres, all strictly “made in Italy”. It will be exhibited for the first time in the world at the upcoming Essen Motor Show, to be held in Germany from 27 November to 7 December 2008, in hall 5, stand 128, hosted by Oxigin Wheels.

Following the success of the 2008 Marangoni TRC Fiat 500, another Italian show car will be used to confirm Marangoni’s ongoing tuning interests.

Once again Marangoni are the first to exhibit a uniquely designed and tuned example of a newly released Italian car. The project has been completed in a seemingly impossibly timeframe, coming soon after the Italian release of the Alfa Mito on 12 September.

Starting from a 1.4 litre turbo petrol model, the M430 is a complete reworking of the car, with considerable changes to the bodywork, engine, interior, braking system and trim. The tuning project was again handled by the Florence-based TRC Italia, and for this truly sporting interpretation, Marangoni decided to develop a limited series of its ultra high performance Mythos tyres, using a special red compound, in perfect symbiosis with the new look of the vehicle.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SYHhSZRZLMI/AAAAAAAAAO4/2gXeXAXSJB4/s320/marangoni-alfa-romeo-mito-m430-2009-11.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296762342902148290" />
Throughout 2008 and 2009 the M430 will be on display at many leading European tuning shows, with a schedule of more than 10 events.

Body and design

It’s not hard to guess the origin of the M430 design, as the name itself explains its source of inspiration.

The front bumper has two wide air grills, designed to direct air flow to the uprated braking system. On the sides are wide vents that highlight the extremely sporting design of the vehicle. At the rear, the original bumper has been removed and replaced with a stunning new carbon fibre diffuser made by MB, featuring evident air extractors, again in 430 style.Carbon fibre was also used to make the rings around the lights and the spoiler on the rear window. Racy skirting completes the vehicle’s body kit, perfectly unifying the two axles. In addition, special LSD hinges have been adopted, with added modifications, meaning the doors now open wing-style, just like on the most prestigious supercars.

Power kit

The extensively tuned engine now delivers 220 HP, a good 65 HP more than the original version, with powerful delivery even at low revs. The power kit designed by Mariani also includes a new bearing-mounted rotary turbine, downpipe complete with metal catalyst, rear stainless steel exhaust with four pipes, and air filtering with special carbon air box.

Interior

The new look of the interior stands out immediately. The seats, roof lining, carpets and uprights have been covered with special open-work fabrics, enhanced by Luna supercar with a tricolore motif that accentuates the Italianness of the design. The gear knob, pedals, footrest and handbrake lever have been made by Isotta with Swarovski stone inserts to create a “regal” yet at the same time sporty feel.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SYHhab1wzII/AAAAAAAAAPA/ImNW6GybTUA/s320/marangoni-alfa-romeo-mito-m430-2009-26.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296762481030515842" />

Other features

The M430 has been lowered by around 4 cm using KW threaded strut housings that allow height adjustment. The already powerful standard braking system has been replaced with innovative Tarox B33 10-pot calipers and composite 330x26 diameter brake discs, for absolute yet controllable braking power.

Wheels

The spectacular red Marangoni Mythos tyres, in the 225/35R18 Y size, developed by adding special coloured pigments to the compound, are fitted on Oxigin Crystal black 8x18 wheels. The result is a captivating red-black combination that makes the already stunning M430 look even sportier.stafexhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14330728936961286036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4681516279658441799.post-81156211011182182992009-01-29T08:54:00.000-08:002009-01-29T09:00:22.093-08:00Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 222px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SYHf3eqpC3I/AAAAAAAAAOY/ecO9DMz7WyU/s320/audi-r8-v10-2010-1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296760780982127474" />

Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro review:
The Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro: breathtaking performance

The new 5.2-liter, ten-cylinder engine puts out 525 hp
Sprint to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, top speed 316 km/h
High-performance sports car with striking design

Audi is launching the next variant of its top-of-the-line model. With the R8, the brand has established itself at the forefront of high-end sports cars from the very start – and now comes the R8 V10. Its 5.2-liter, ten-cylinder engine churns out 386 kW (525 hp) and 530 Nm (390.91 lb-ft) of torque, which makes for breathtaking performance. With superior Audi technologies such as quattro all-wheel drive, the lightweight aluminum body, the innovative all-LED headlights, and its striking design, the

R8 V10 takes pole position against the competition.

The R8 V10 is the result of cumulative know-how from Audi`s string of Le Mans victories. Its naturally aspirated engine combines racing technology such as dry sump lubrication with FSI gasoline direct injection. The ten-cylinder design is the perfect synthesis for impressive top performance, mighty pulling power, and low weight. Starting in 2009, this engine will also prove its potential on the world`s racetracks – in the new R8 racing car Audi is developing for customer teams in conformance with the GT3 rules.

The V10 engine in the production sports car will be almost identical in construction to the one in the racing version. Its displacement is 5,204 cc, at 6,500 rpm it delivers 530 Nm (390.91 lb-ft) of torque, at 8,000 rpm its power tops out at 386 kW (525 hp).

The specific power output is 100.9 hp per liter of displacement – and each hp has to propel only 3.09 kilograms (6.91 lb) of weight, because the Audi R8 V10 in the version with the six-speed manual gearshift weighs only 1,620 kilograms (3571 lb). The engine accounts for 258 of these kilograms (569 lb) – that`s only 31 kilos (68 lb) more than the V8.

The Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro rockets from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 3.9 seconds. In the version with the sequentially shifting R tronic it reaches 200 km/h (124.27 mph) in another 8.1 seconds. Even then its propulsive power hardly lessens: it`s sufficient to reach a top speed of 316 km/h (196.35 mph). The immense force, the spontaneity and the thrust of the acceleration, plus the sound of the engine – all these impressions coalesce into a breathtaking sports car experience. The V10 plays a concert with growling bass tones and powerful high notes, which grows into a grandiose fortissimo as the engine revs up. This sonorous acceleration doesn`t reach its limit until 8,700 rpm.

The 5.2-liter powerplant uses direct injection according to the FSI principle developed by Audi. A common rail system injects the fuel into the combustion chambers with up to 120 bar of pressure. Direct injection reduces the susceptibility to knocking and provides a certain amount of cooling through the evaporation of the fuel, which in turn supports a high compression ratio of 12.5:1. This in turn contributes to superior performance and improves fuel economy. The R8 V10 with R tronic gets by on an average of 13.7 liters per 100 km (17.17 US mpg).

For maximum dynamics: low center of gravity engine

The technical refinements of the long-stroke ten-cylinder engine include dry sump lubrication, which allows the engine to be mounted low within the chassis. The wide cylinder angle of 90 degrees also makes for a low center of gravity. The crankcase is a high-strength aluminum-alloy casting produced in a complex process. The connecting rods are made of forged steel, the pistons of aluminum. The four camshafts are chain-driven and each is adjustable through 42 degrees. This provides great latitude in controlling the valve timing. In combination with the straight, flow-optimized ducts of the intake manifold, this improves the charge throughout the entire speed range.

The R8 5.2 FSI quattro has a six-speed transmission. A precise and smooth-shifting manual transmission comes as standard equipment. The sequential R tronic is available as an option. The high-tech gearshift conveys an authentic racing feel – with the rocker switches at the steering wheel and the short shifting times of usually less than one-tenth of a second. When the driver actuates the Launch Control program by pressing a button, the R8 V10 takes off in a vehement quick-start with electronically controlled tire slip – both with the R tronic and with the manual transmission.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 226px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SYHf9knt22I/AAAAAAAAAOg/cePhpn7JF-s/s320/audi-r8-v10-2010-2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296760885659687778" />

A contributing factor to the wide lead in traction and driving safety of the Audi R8 V10 over the competition is quattro all-wheel drive – it`s the superior technology especially for a high-performance sports car. Four powered wheels get more grip than two. They enable the driver to step on the gas sooner when coming out of a curve. It`s not only the traction that benefits, but also the transverse dynamics and the stability.

44 to 56 percent – the ideal axle load distribution

The Audi R8 chassis offers both dynamic performance and astonishing levels of comfort on long distances. This high-performance sports car from Audi eagerly responds to any steering action with instant ease, achieves lateral acceleration of up to 1.2 g, and handles any situation with superb driving safety. Its mid-engine design provides an ideal axle load distribution of 44 to
56 percent.

The wheel suspensions on dual aluminum wishbones front and rear – a classic racing technology – are optimized for neutral self-steering characteristics. Even more than in the eight-cylinder R8, this setup is designed for maximum performance. 19-inch wheels equipped with tire pressure monitoring display are standard equipment. Their 10-spoke Y design is exclusive to the R8 V10. Tire sizes are 235/35 front and 295/30 rear.

The car features a high-end damper technology as standard: Audi magnetic ride adapts the characteristics of the suspension in milliseconds to the nature of the road surface and to the driving style. Suspended in the oil of the shock absorbers are tiny magnetic particles which, when a voltage is applied, rearrange themselves so as to slow down the flow of oil through the valves.

In the R8 V10, deceleration is provided by an extremely muscular braking system – eight brake pistons at the front and four at the rear grasp the brake disks, which are ventilated and perforated to ensure unimpeded heat transfer. The brake disks on the front axle have a diameter of 380 millimeters (15 in); the rear discs span 356 millimeters (14 in).

The R8 5.2 FSI quattro is optionally available with a ceramic brake system whose disks are made of a composite material containing high-strength carbon fibers and abrasion-resistant silicon carbide. These are especially light: their combined weight is nine kilograms (19.84 lb) less than the weight of equivalent steel disks. The ceramic brakes can easily cope with the harsher requirements of racing, won`t corrode, and have a typical service life of 300,000 kilometers (186,400 miles). Their calipers are painted charcoal gray and emblazoned with the inscription "Audi ceramic".

Typically Audi: Sharp lines and an elegantly curved roof

The wide, full shape of the R8 5.2 FSI quattro seems to hug the road. The brawny proportions and prominent wheel wells underscore its potential. The high-precision styling of the lines and the elegant curve of the roof are typical Audi features. A continuous contour optically connects the front, the wheel wells, the sides and the rear. Located well forward, the cab visually expresses the mid-engine design. The vertical air scoops (sideblades) on the sides are also indicative of the engine location. The massive aluminum gas cap is mounted flush within the right sideblade.

The design of the Audi R8 has already impressed experts, as evidenced by the double victory in the "World Car of the Year Awards 2008". In the ten-cylinder model, the styling has been sharpened up even more.

The front air inlets, which feed air to the coolers, and the lip of the front apron are painted in high-gloss black. The number of cross-braces has been reduced from four to two. The vanes of the single-frame grille have a striking chrome finish.

A very distinctive highlight of the R8 V10 are the all-LED headlights as standard equipment. Audi is the world`s first automaker to use LEDs for the high beam, low beam, daytime running lights, and turn signals. Each headlight integrates 54 of these high-tech light sources. With a color temperature of 6,000 Kelvin the LED light closely resembles daylight, which is less tiring to the eyes in night driving. Further advantages of the LEDs include brilliant illumination, low energy consumption, and a virtually unlimited service life.

Special details also distinguish the body of the R8 V10. Its sideblades are more accentuated than in the eight-cylinder version. The side sills are more striking and wider; the exhaust grilles at the rear windows have a matt aluminum look. Through the large rear window, the ten-cylinder engine is clearly visible in its consummate technical beauty.

When in motion, this Audi high-performance sports car creates a downforce that keeps it in firm contact with the road – thanks to a rear spoiler which deploys automatically at 100 km/h and the fully enclosed underbody, which terminates in a sharply upward-curved diffuser. The dominant color at the rear end is high-gloss black, including the settings of the LED tail lights. The air outlets at the rear end also have only two cross-braces, and the exhaust system terminates in two large oval tailpipes.

Audi sets the example – in body weight and rigidity

The body of a sports car must be especially lightweight and rigid. Audi meets these requirements with the technology of the Audi Space Frame (ASF) and its high-tech aluminum construction. The body-in-white of the R8 V10, which includes an engine frame made of ultra-light magnesium, weighs only 210 kilograms (463 lb), and the quality of its lightweight design – the relation of weight to torsional rigidity – is the best in the sports car segment. The body is composed of profile extrusions, sheet aluminum and very complex gusset castings, all held together by 99 meters (325 ft) of welding seams, 782 rivets, and 308 special screws.

The interior of the R8 V10 provides a unique racing ambience at the luxury level. Its dominant element is the so-called monoposto – a wide arc that contains the steering wheel and the cockpit. As always in an Audi, the workmanship is of the highest quality. The surfaces of the dashboard and doors are lined with fine materials and adorned with precisely stitched decorative seams. Many customizing solutions are available: Audi supplies leather in a wide range of colors, packages with a carbon and piano-lacquer finish, or a made-to-measure luggage set. quattro GmbH, which has developed and is producing the R8 V10, also provides solutions for unconventional requirements.

The great everyday utility of the Audi R8 V10 is based in part on its spacious interior made possible by the long wheelbase of 2.65 meters (8.69 ft). Drivers and passengers of any size will always find a perfect sitting position. Visibility too is surprisingly good. Slender hinge pillars optimize the obliquely forward field of view. Another advantage for convenient everyday use is the luggage space: 100 liters (3.53 cu ft) fit under the front hood, another 90 liters (3.18 cu ft) can be stowed behind the seats. There is also room for two golf bags.

The Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro combines its colossal performance with a generous complement of standard equipment. Highlights include heatable seat covers made of Fine Nappa leather, a driver information system, the navigation system plus and the Bang & Olufsen sound system along with deluxe automatic air conditioning and an alarm system. The instruments and the gearshift knob are decorated with red rings; the footrests and the rocker switches of the R tronic have an aluminum finish.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 226px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SYHgEuSfwMI/AAAAAAAAAOo/uc0WMCJ6cdI/s320/audi-r8-v10-2010-5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296761008514121922" />

The list of options includes other highly attractive features – such as the Audi parking system advanced with its integrated rearview camera or numerous Audi exclusive customization options. Various leather packages provide a luxurious touch, while the bucket seats from the Audi exclusive program bring a highly concentrated racing atmosphere into the R8 V10.

The Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro will be rolled out in Germany in the second quarter of 2009 at a basic price of EUR 142,400.
End of Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro review.stafexhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14330728936961286036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4681516279658441799.post-8746345146049561492009-01-13T06:35:00.000-08:002009-01-13T06:36:27.735-08:00HHO - DIY cellstafexhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14330728936961286036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4681516279658441799.post-36190786242199564572008-12-13T06:42:00.001-08:002008-12-13T06:43:25.190-08:00LA Auto Show 2008: Ferrari California comes home<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5_C3gv0B9XA/SUPKBBVI86I/AAAAAAAAAKk/KOjweyJF3rc/s320/2008+LA+Auto+Show+Ferrari+California+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5279285307094135714" />
The Ferrari California delves into new territory for Ferrari, both in theme and design. Many faithful to the marque may be against its styling, but the true test will be sales numbers. As Porsche has proved over the last few years, the addition of successful new models can be a valuable asset to a company's finances, and we're all in favor of Ferrari's increased capability to improve the breed. The LA Auto Show is the first time we've seen the car in its namesake state, and we took the chance to give it another close inspection after our recent first encounter with the Ferrari California in Sicily. The style is definitely growing on us, and we dearly loved the car in Azzurro Blue. But until that time comes Chevy has decided to win over some loving fans by auctioning it off. Chrysler and Ford have already auctioned off the brand new Challenger and Mustang - which brought in hundreds and possibly even thousands of dollars to a charity in need.

Now GM and the College of Creative Studies is hoping that they will have the same benefit. They are sleek, stylish, and fast all three qualities that are needed to make the perfect supercar. But how much would a true loyal enthusiast pay to obtain one of these great vehicles?
One loyal enthusiast said was that he has heard a rumor that there could be a $1.5 million limited-edition Lamborghini, which is to be based on the LP640 Murcielago. Apparently 20 will be made, with 15 reserved for the U.S., and that the new supercar’s official unveiling will occur at the Frankfurt motor show next month.

Unfortunately these rumors haven’t been proven with spy photos yet so we aren’t completely sure is they are true yet. Engineers were faithful to the Lamborghini design and tradition while at the same time conforming it to the contmeporary style that attracts so many consumers.
The new Murcielago is powered by a 6.5-litre V12, longitudinally mounted behind the driver. The engine’s increased displacement means output jumps to 631 hp at 8,000 rpm. 0-62 mph is accomplished in just 3.4 seconds, that’s nearly half a second faster than the regular model.

The body of the Murcielago LP640 with its characteristic scissor doors is created from the prized union of sheet steel and honeycombed carbon fiber, glued and riveted together. Driving, handling and stability at high speed are enhanced by new springs and stabilizers, as well as by a redesigned electronically controlled damper.

A new six-speed gearbox with an optional sequential paddle shift undoubtedly helps achieve those numbers. The carbon fiber exterior has been enhanced with sharper lines, new 18-inch rims enhance the overall appearance, and new outrageous 13.5 inch-wide tires deliver all that power to the ground.

The “antidive” and “anti-squat” features on the axles, which efficiently prevent so-called “brake diving” and “squatting”, have not been changed. The two springs on every rear wheel, the single spring on every front wheel and the damper are placed coaxially.

The seats in the cockpit have undergone the most radical changes; more spacious and equipped with redesigned head restraints, the seats now ensure better comfort. The leather upholstery features lozenge-shaped stitching called “Q-citura”. The same design is recaptured on the upholstery on the door panels, the panel between the seats and the engine compartment, and on the roof panel.
stafexhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14330728936961286036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4681516279658441799.post-60221925403638290902007-09-07T00:24:00.000-07:002007-09-07T00:26:25.278-07:00
In keeping with its brand strategy, Rolls-Royce would never give the go-ahead to participate in a conventional motorsport activity. The engine is electric, of course, and generates 700 BHP. The top speed for this super car is more than 200 kmh. For an electric engine this car is very powerfull. The battery system, designed by NanoSafe, is the heart of the power. it’s new, it’s great, and it’s spelled “POWER”. The battery recharges very fast, for at least 250 miles only 10 minutes of recharging would be needed. The Lightning GT has another cool feature. Every time the car brakes or slows down, the kinetic energy is transformed into heat and forwarded to the battery as electricity. It self regenerates. For the bodywork, the UK designers used Carbon fibre,aluminium and Kevlar technology.The interior is a luxury one. It has incorporated Satellite navigation, an Ipod interface and a virtual engine sound. Of course , it has only two seats, so it’s tagged as a sport car. I don’t know … the bodykit is simillar somehow with the Dodge Viper. Especially the front of the car. Anyway, it’s truly a super car. And this time it’s not made by the germans. The british company “wins terrain” in the super car battlefield.Though the engine is powerfull, a small glitch is this : it accelerates rather slow. From 0 to 60 kmh in almost 4 seconds. But we can overpass that. The other features of the engine saves it’s reputation : total weather proofing,several levels of redundancy and a total energy transfer. These make it a super engine. The price for this super car is not yet set, because the Lightning GT will be launched on the market just before the end of 2008. Until then, let’s hope the UK will bring on the market a few more sport cars .
stafexhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14330728936961286036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4681516279658441799.post-56756697577814667692007-08-08T01:53:00.002-07:002007-08-08T02:00:49.896-07:00Peugeot Design Contest 2007

Challenge the imagination.

The key to design is passion, and Peugeot has been sharing this passion for six years. The vehicle sports "multiple preventative features" designed to curb inebriated operation of vehicles, and essentially detects the driver's state of sobriety and kicks into action if you've had a bit much. Amongst the detection agents are alcohol odor sensors built into the locking shift knob, seat-mounted sensors that can activate a voice and navigation screen warning, and a facial monitoring system that determines your "state of consciousness through your eyes." Regrettably, there's still no word as to when this system could actually hit showroom floors, but if the automaker has shelled out enough dough to craft a concept vehicle, we'd imagine it's not too far out.

[Via TheAutoChannel]stafexhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14330728936961286036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4681516279658441799.post-71352701127579866522007-08-08T01:48:00.001-07:002007-08-08T01:49:59.358-07:00MIT Car
Composite Outboard Structure Protects the Soft Inflatable Passenger Compartment. This project comprises the design and build of a concept car which re-invents the car as a designed object, and redefines the user's relationship to the car and to the city. The event takes place in the city of Bethlehem Pa, which has played host for over ten years. The theme for this year's event was 'The Romance of the Open Car', with a special tribute to Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg Marques.

Categories
The Performance category was for domestic cars, created between 1949 through 1963, who treasured horsepower as their king. Taking this to the next level was the muscle car era, which featured extreme experimentation in the horsepower-to-weight ratio; high horsepower with the least amount of weight possible. Always present in this group are the Pontiac GTOs, considered the first in the Muscle Car movement. Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds and Barracuda's are popular attendees in this category; these cars are always heard well before they are ever seen. The Sports Car Category includes domestic and foreign cars of lightweight body work, designed for speed and handling. It is a joy to see an Allard roll onto the concours field; in this case, there were two, making the event even more special. The design of the Allard K2 was a modern car with European design influences, seating for two, small trunk area, and a monstrous American V8 engine. The standard engine was the 3.6-liter Ford, but Mercury, Chrysler or Cadillac V8 engines were able to fit under the bonnet. Production lasted from 1950 through 1952 with a total of 119 examples being constructed. The other Allard was a no-nonsense Allard J2X, finished in black paint with red wire wheels, and attractive cycle fenders. The vehicle is mostly engine bay, with the driver and passenger sitting very far back, only inches away from the rear wheel. There is a front grille and a hood scoop to allow for maximum breathing for the engine. It is a very attractive car that is capable of going as fast as it looks.

The Brass Era Cars included those cars constructed prior to World War I, reflecting the earliest examples of the automobile. Each of the cars in this group has undoubtedly been treated to a complete restoration. The cars were exquisite, without any sign of rust, damage, rips or tears. American Traveler Underslung is a brilliant vehicle, resting on some of the largest wheels ever created. It is one of 300 Travelers produced in 1910 and 1 of 2 still in existence. It under-went a 17 year restoration to original factory standards. The Stanley Steamer on display drove onto the field in silent fashion as the steam quietly exited the car. It is one of the few remaining Model F Steamers still in existence and one of the best examples of its kind.

The Classic Era category included cars built between 1925 and 1948 and recognized by the Classic Car Club of America as Full Classics. Examples on display included Franklin, Cadillac, Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Packard, and Pierce-Arrow. Cadillac created a total of 51 examples of their V16 Cadillac in 1940 with two being convertibles; one was on display at this year's concours. When Cadillac introduced their sixteen cylinder engine, it was a historical event seen as revolutionary at the time. By the 1990s, only three marquees would attempt production with a sixteen-cylinder engine; Cadillac offered their's for ten years. Two Rolls Royce Phantom models were on display, one built in 1926 and the other in 1931. In order to be recognized as a CCCA Classic, the car had to have been built in limited production numbers and carried a very expensive price tag when new. The reasoning for these criteria is to represent only the pinnacle of engineering, styling and design for their era.

The 'General' category is everything that is deserving of Concours participation that is not categorized within other Concours classifications.

Auburn, Cord & Duesenberg
When the Auburn Automobile Company of Auburn, Indiana went out of business on November 13th of 1937; it did not do-so by itself. It took with it two other legendary companies, Cord and Duesenberg. Errett L. Cord had become president of the Auburn Company eleven years prior, and purchased the Duesenberg Company just a short time later. He created a line of vehicles bearing his own name; one of the more memorable of their creations was their front-wheel drive L-29. The cars introduced under E.L. Cords regime are among the most memorable of their companies' history. He was a brilliant business man and a visionary who was able to make the impossible a reality. Unfortunately, by 1937, the Company had endured the Great Depression along with mounting other problems and was forced to close their doors forever.

This year's poster cars paid tribute to each of these marquees and highlighted the company's creativity, ingenuity, and personality. The Duesenberg Model J and SJ are paragons; big, bold and stately. Nothing could compare to the character that these vehicles displayed as they traveled down the road. The cars were respected and their owners admired. The Auburn 12 Speedster was stylish and sporty. The boattail bodies are as alluring today as they were during the 1930s. The twelve-cylinder engine hidden under the graceful bonnet was more than capable to back up the car's appearance. Finishing off the trio was the Cord 812 with its unique 'coffin-nose' front-end. The hood, when opened, would open upwards. The windshield was split in the middle and was small in comparison to other vehicles. This was due to the room needed by the massive V8 engine. The front had a chrome bumper and a wrap-around grill. Two lights were attached to the bumper and two retractable lights were hidden in the front wheel covers. When first introduced these cars were dubbed the 810. In 1937 the car was renamed to the 812 and included a few modifications. The 812S were supercharged and had chromed exhaust pipes attached to the side.

It is a tragedy that this remarkable group of automobile manufacturers was forced out of business. E.L.Cord ran the company for only a short period of time; it is fascinating to wonder what might have been if they had remained in production. What would have happened if not for The Great Depression? It is events such as the Concours d'Elegance of the Eastern United States that allow for the history to be remembered and admired, and for the mind to wonder 'what if'.

The Romance of the Open Car
Everything begins with a need or a desire. What follows is an evolution of that initial thought. The chariot, the carriage, the bicycle and then the automobile. When we look at the automobile, we have seen over 100 years of progress and a history that seems to change drastically nearly every decade. The automobiles most basic purpose is to serve as a mode of transportation. Ford was one of the first to capitalize upon that basic need by creating a car that was low cost and very simplistic; it was a major success. What has followed that simple need are a plethora of unique interpretations of art and desire. The conquests of racing has brought about their own jewels, but on the open road, nothing is more appreciated than a car that allows a panoramic view, the wind in one's face, and the sun casting its warm rays on one's shoulders. The Eastern Concours of the United States have pulled out their microscopes to analyze and appreciate some of the most wonderful creations of the open-road touring the world has ever known.

Most major concours events have one or many celebrated themes. The interesting aspects about these groups are the subtle or drastic differences between each vehicle that make them unique creations. For example, when a concours celebrates the work of a coachbuilder, it is interesting to note the progression or analyze the differences between each vehicle. In most cases, the differences were the work of accommodating the unique specifications of the individual purchasing the car. The differences are that individual's personality molded into the car to meet their basic needs. Another theme that is always a delight, are those that include racing, where the course or the racing regulations dictate the basic outline of the vehicle. The creativity that went into each vehicle in an attempt to make it faster than the competition, or how the technology was best integrated into the machine, is fascinating. Their appearances alone tell the stories of 'how' and 'why'.

This year's celebrated theme at the Eastern Concours of the United States was 'The Romance of the Open Car.' Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg were the celebrated marquees, with the 1931 Duesenberg serving as the poster car. The 'Romance of the Open Car' is such a broad category, yet the progression from year-to-year is worth admiring. The 'convertible', or 'drop top', along with countless other terms for the 'open road' cruising, has come to mean the maximum enjoyment in an automobile, while giving all ones sense's a stimulating work-out. This feature has not been reserved for a single bodystyle, but has adorned touring, phaetons, roadsters and many more. Some marquees have taken a simple approach to lowering the top of the vehicle, while others, such as those in the post-WWII era, have attempted to integrate technology into the process and lower the top gracefully, stowing it discretely in an non-visible location, and doing while driving the vehicle at speed.

When the automobile was first introduced, the default bodystyle was the convertible. The engines during this era did not produce adequate horsepower to carry the large and heavy enclosed body. By 1910, engines had become powerful and Cadillac was among the first to introduce a closed-body car.

During the 1970s, convertible's decreased slightly in popularity due to threats from the United States government to increase rollover safety requirements. In response, manufacturers became less willing to create unsellable cars under the new proposed restrictions. Cadillac advertised their 1976 Eldorado as 'The last convertible in America.' America's desire for the open road was cured by T-tops, which served as a worthy alternative to the convertible. By the 1980s, the convertible had made a comeback and in the modern era, convertibles are manufactured by nearly every marquee.

The retractable hardtops were cars with a movable roof. It offered the best of both worlds. It had the rigid roof of a coupe with the pleasures of a convertible. They increased security over their soft-top counterpart. Peugeot experimented with the idea prior to World War II, but it was Ford in the post war era that made a solid attempt with their Skyliner. The car had a fully automatic retractable roof and sold for three years in the United States. The car was riddled with unreliability problems and high expenses. The hardtop retractable roof was not seen again in the United States until the mid-1990s with the Mitsubishi 3000GT Spyder. It was followed by the Mercedes-Benz SLK 230 which is considered the first successful retractable hardtop convertible in the United States.

The oldest car in the 'Open Car' category at the Concours was the Stanley Steamer of the pre-WWI era; the youngest being a 1969 Pontiac. Devising a retractable top for a two-seater convertible is a challenge; doing it for a car that has seating for six requires even more creativity. The top must be functional while it is up, eliminating as much road noise as possible, and able to bear the weight of the wind and elements while traveling at speeds. In recent years, safety has become more of a concern, and the car must also be able to withstand the effects of a roll-over. One of the larger vehicles on display in this category was the 1958 Ford Thunderbird; the Thunderbird had been around since 1955, with the first series being known as the 'Classic' or 'Little Bird.' The largest complaint with this vehicle had been its lack of back seats and limited trunk space. The second version of the Thunderbird, introduced in 1958, rectified these shortcomings. The design was often dubbed, the 'Squarebirds', and was a further progression to luxury while straying away from sporty. The car was offered as either a hardtop or convertible; a retractable top was considered but after a less-than favorable experience with the Skyliner, the idea was scraped in favor of the traditional lowering method. The hardtop version was the more popular of the two bodystyles.

Charity
The money raised from this event, now in its 18th year, helps support the Burn Prevention Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to 'provide burn injury prevention education to and advocacy for those at greatest risk.' There are 1.25 million burns annually with seventy-five percent of all serious burns caused by the victims' own actions.

Event coverage by Kyle McMullenstafexhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14330728936961286036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4681516279658441799.post-56081061889536331362007-08-07T13:50:00.000-07:002007-08-07T13:51:22.533-07:00Peugeot 308 RC Z ConceptThe 308 RC Z concept car is a new Peugeot interpretation of driving pleasure.
